WELCOME TO 5TH GRADE ELA!
My name is Emma McPherson and I am so excited to be teaching 5th grade ELA at Seguin Elementary for the 2025-2026 school year!
About Me:
I was born and raised in San Antonio and attended Texas A&M University (WHOOP!) where I earned my Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education and my Master's in Curriculum and Instruction. This will be my second year teaching 5th grade and my first in WISD. When I am not teaching, I love spending time with my fiancé and our families, shopping, trying out new restaurants, and watching Aggie sports!
Our Learning:
This year we will grow together as readers. We will:
- Read fun and interesting stories and talk about the characters, plot, and themes
- Explore poems, plays, and myths
- Learn how to figure out new words using clues in the text
- Find the main idea and important details in nonfiction texts
- Use text evidence to make predictions and draw conclusions
- Learn about why authors write and how they get their message across
- Compare books and stories to see how they’re alike and different
